As media, we are always on the lookout for stories and new ways to tell them. As new technologies unfold, our experience evolves with them. Virtual reality already allows us to immerse ourselves in the world of someone’s imagination. But it still limits us to one point of view, to one side of the story. What if you could actually step into it, and even roam freely? What if we could use VR to uncover the other sides to a story? This is where Illuminate comes in, an innovation project that aims to enable 6 degrees of freedom in VR. With this new medium, we are able to tell stories in a completely different way and physically guide you as viewer throughout the plot.
The goal of the project is to build an end-to-end pipeline for 6 degrees of freedom VR experience, from content creation to streaming, using lightfield technology. As VRT, we will be creating content in CGI and explore new forms of storytelling techniques.
